This week at Skylight Gardens.

Hello everyone and thanks for checking back in!

It’s really great to have excellent wine to drink with your meal but what about your wine glass? I recently had the pleasure of taking a sensory analysis class with Maximilian Riedel, the 11th generation and CEO of Riedel glassware. Riedel makes the finest glassware for drinking wine, specializing in glassware for each variety of grape (they even make a special glass for Coca-Cola!)

He took me through a tasting of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, showing how each glass changes the characteristics of the same wine. While one glass will intensify the fruit aromas of a wine, another will highlight the oak while another will show off the secondary characteristics. So it really is important to have the right glass!

This enlightening class convinced us to purchase over forty cases or Riedel glassware. When you order a bottle of Kumeu River Estate Chardonnay I want you to experience the vibrancy and intense minerality of the wine. If you want to splurge and try the 2012 Sassicaia you will intensely sense the lavender, minerals and black currant on the nose and feel the delicate, ultra-refined tannins on your palate with an exquisite finish.

But it’s not only the world class wines that will benefit. If you order a glass of Giesen Sauvignon Blanc you will better see the fresh lime on the nose and the crisp mouthfeel. If you try the Catena Vista Flores Malbec the black fruit and spice will just sing!

We are having a great time with our wines and working every day to make your experience more enjoyable. We have many plans for our wine program and fun upcoming events which I will share with you in the near future.

See you soon,

Rodney
